A man fell from an escalator at Denver International Airport early Sunday, suffering critical injuries.

The man, whose name has not been released, fell about 25 to 30 feet, said airport spokesman Steve Snyder. He was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center.

The man, in his mid-20s, was riding on an escalator heading down from the A concourse to the train platform when he fell at about 12:30 a.m. Snyder said Denver police are investigating the fall.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said the incident is a “non-traffic accident” and no charges will be filed.

He said the man arrived on a flight from Massachusetts and apparently tried to sit on the handrail of the escalator when he lost his balance.

The man suffered serious head injuries and was in critical condition, Jackson said.

“This is the first time we can remember an accident like this happening at the airport,” Snyder said.
