Skiers and snowboarders continued to flock to Colorado’s slopes in January and February, according to data released today by Colorado Ski Country USA.

The trade group’s 25 member resorts hosted more than 5.25 million skiers and snowboarders in January and February, up 5.4 percent over the same period last year.

The destination resorts – including Aspen, Snowmass, Crested Butte, Durango and Steamboat – hosted 1.65 million skier visits for the period, up 1.6 percent over the same two months last winter. The Front Range destination resorts – including Copper Mountain, Vail, Breckenridge and Winter Park – saw 3.11 million guests, a growth of 6.8 percent. And the “gems” – smaller ski areas such as Eldora, Loveland, Arapahoe Basin and Ski Cooper – saw 484,260 people, an increase of 6.3 percent.

With 8.35 million skier visits on the books to date this season, the state is still on track to top 12 million for the first time ever, according to Colorado Ski Country president Rob Perlman.

“The recent series of storms sets us up well for a strong finish to an already spectacular season,” he said in a statement.

Last winter, Colorado’s resorts hosted 11.81 million skier visits.
