A semi-truck accident at I-25 and Arapahoe sent steel shelving spilling over an on-ramp, and was anticipated to affect the afternoon rush hour.

The accident happened at 12:12 p.m. By 3 p.m., long backups had been reported. But by 4 p.m., highway backups were minimal.

The truck spilled commercial steel shelving on the westbound Arapahoe Road ramp to northbound I-25, according to Greenwood Village Police.

The Colorado Department of Transportation closed the ramp in order to remove the load. Although initially unable to estimate how long the closure would last, they were preparing to reopen the ramp around 4:30 p.m.

The driver was taken to Swedish Medical Center. His condition was not known.
