Medical manufacturer Gambro plans to add about 300 employees to its Lakewood operations within the next year.
About half the new employees will be production workers earning about $15 an hour; the rest will be engineers and scientists earning upwards of $50,000 annually, said Anne Bonelli, a spokeswoman for the company.
The company, which added 250 jobs last year, also plans to spend $16 million on capital improvements over the next five years as it expands its blood bank technology group.
Gambro is a $2 billion company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Lakewood- based Gambro BTC – the blood bank technology group – posted $310 million in revenue last year and employs 1,500 people.
Gambro will expand its manufacturing facilities at its existing location at 10810 W. Collins Ave. after it relocates about 200 employees to a new building that Aardex Corp. is developing at the Denver West Office Park.
Gambro is the first tenant to sign a lease in Aardex’s 185,000- square-foot speculative building, said Chris Ernst, senior vice president of development at Aardex.
“We bought the site back in December 2004 knowing the location was a very important location,” Ernst said.
A number of companies have expressed interest in leasing space in the building, he said.
“With limited space on the west side, an in-fill project next to the Denver West park would be a big winner.”
