His mind will be in New York, but LenDale White will remain in Denver for the NFL draft.

The former Colorado schoolboy star who left Southern California after three years will await his fate at the Hiawatha Davis Jr. Recreational Center in north Denver, 33rd Avenue and Holly Street.

The draft will begin April 29.

White, a power running back who has taken some hits lately for a lack of workouts under pro supervision and is battling an injured hamstring, is on the mend, according to his uncle, Herman White.

LenDale White recently visited with officials from Dallas, Detroit and Pittsburgh and will be on ESPN’s “Cold Pizza” on Friday.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on April 29, White, USC’s all-time leader in touchdowns, will be available to give out more than 1,000 autographed pictures and about 500 footballs to neighborhood kids who can attend.

“It will be good for families,” Herman White said.

Altitude Sports also will be on hand to track White’s day.

Football

The Colorado All-State football combine will be May 17 at the University of Colorado practice fields in Boulder.

In its third year, officials are expecting approximately 250 hopefuls. Various colleges will be on hand to view local players, who will be joined by schoolboys from Nebraska and Wyoming. The combine director is Jerry Howard, 303-604-6083.

Also, the Denver Broncos are providing their practice facility to the Colorado High School Coaches Association for the second time for the National Athletic Testing System (NATS).

It will be conducted June 11. Players from graduating classes 2007-10 may register on line at www.nats.us.

NATS is a nonprofit American Football Coaches Association program nationwide, a standardized athletic performance test to track and compare the players’ athletic ability and development. NATS is scheduled for the states of Washington, Oklahoma, Maryland, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Nevada, New York and Michigan.
