He wasn’t even supposed to coach this season, at least according to his doctors.
Glenn McIntosh proved them wrong. The Rampart hockey coach was given six months to live last June and he not only coached, he guided the Rams to a 13-8 record and a state quarterfinal appearance.
McIntosh, 51, lost his lengthy battle with cancer Monday.
“It’s not just Rampart hockey that will miss him,” Rampart athletic director Mark Koopman said, “but hockey in Colorado Springs will miss him. Just the style and the personality he brought to the rink.”
McIntosh was named The Denver Post’s hockey coach of the year.
“Glenn McIntosh was passionate about kids. He didn’t care where you were from or who your parents were, he just cared about the kids,” Koopman said. “He taught them the concept of team and about the pressures of living day to day, because that is what they saw every day.”
A viewing is set for Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Swan-Law Funeral Home on 501 N. Cascade Ave. in Colorado Springs. Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Pines at 11020 Teachout Road in Black Forest.
McIntosh, who ran his own business, is survived by his wife, Deborah, and sons Josh and Jared.
