A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death by a bystander who confronted him while he was arguing with his girlfriend outside a 7-Eleven early Wednesday.

Police did not release the name of the victim, but family members and co-workers identified him as Michael Quintana, 24.

Quintana’s uncle, Arnold Romero, said his nephew was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where he died of a stab wound to his neck.

Quintana was arguing with his girlfriend at about 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 2299 W. Alameda Ave., said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman. It is unclear what the argument was about, but it was not a physical confrontation, he said.

A man walked up and confronted Quintana during the argument, according to police. The man pulled out a knife, stabbed Quintana in the neck, then fled. Police did not release his description.

Quintana had two daughters, 5 and 6, and two sons, 9 and 10 months, Romero said.

He had been working for about three weeks at an Arby’s a few blocks from where he was stabbed.
