Peggy Lamm, a Democratic candidate for the 7th Congressional District, gathered nearly twice the number of valid signatures she needed to get on the August primary ballot, the Colorado secretary of state’s office announced Wednesday.
Candidates for the seat, currently held by gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez, need 1,000 valid signatures, and state officials verified that 1,988 of more than 3,300 signatures she submitted met requirements.
Lamm will face former state Sen. Ed Perlmutter and possibly businessman Herb Rubenstein, who also submitted petitions but has yet to have them verified.
The public has five days to challenge Lamm’s signatures.
“During the state assembly, there was constant talk that the Perlmutter campaign was going to challenge every signature,” Lamm campaign manager Jim Merlino said. “But it looks like more of the same from Perlmutter’s campaign: A lot of tough talk and no action.”
Perlmutter campaign manager Danielle Radovich Piper said a review of Lamm’s petitions is planned.
“We don’t know yet about a challenge,” she said.
