A 3-year-old girl drowned Thursday morning while swimming in an apartment complex pool with her father and sister.
Julia Miller was found by two women who were swimming at Belmar Villa Apartments, 759 S. Reed Court in Lakewood, said Micki Trost, spokeswoman for West Metro Fire Rescue.
“If you look away for one moment, a kid can slip away from you,” Trost said.
The father and sister did not see the girl go under water about 11:30 a.m. in the pool, which ranges from 3 to 8 feet deep, she said. The two women spotted the girl and dived into the rectangular pool and pulled her out.
“One of the neighbors said there was loud splashing and screaming for help,” Trost said.
The women who pulled the girl out of the water performed CPR at the direction of a dispatcher.
When Lakewood police arrived, they took over CPR, followed by paramedics. They were unsuccessful in reviving the girl.
Lakewood police are investigating the drowning. It was the second this week in the Denver area involving a child.
Moises Bahakal, 2, drowned in a pond in front of the Twin Lake Towers complex in Denver on Tuesday. At the time, he was playing on the bank of the pond with at least one other child. The boy’s mother pulled him from the water and tried to revive him.
