The Fort Lewis football team will begin its season as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference favorite after coaches ranked the Skyhawks No. 1 in the preseason poll.

Fort Lewis, which hasn’t won a league title since 1984, tied for second last season with Colorado Mines. The Orediggers are ranked fourth. Nebraska-Kearney, the defending RMAC champ, is ranked second.

Tournament of Champions field set

The field for the second high school basketball Tournament of Champions has been set, the Metro Denver Sports Commission announced.

The tournament is scheduled for Dec. 18-21 in Denver, with the championship game to be broadcast on FSN. Other games will be played Dec. 20-23 at Harrison High School in Colorado Springs.

The field includes four returning CHSAA state champions – Class 5A’s Mullen, Thomas Jefferson (4A), Denver Christian (3A) and Jefferson Academy (2A). Grandview, the tournament’s defending champion, will join Abraham Lincoln, Northridge, Harrison, Coronado, Gateway, Denver West, Pueblo South, Lewis-Palmer, Kent Denver and Evangelical Christian as other participants.
