First-round leader Martin Laird followed up his opening 64 with a 7-under-par 65 on Saturday to lead the Denver Open at 15-under 129.
But the excellent play has only netted the former Colorado State golfer a two-stroke lead, as defending champion Matthew Zions also shot a 65 at Buffalo Run Golf Course in Commerce City, following a first-round 66.
Six golfers are tied for third at 10-under 134.
PGA: Gabriel Hjertstedt, bidding to become the third two-time winner of the B.C. Open, overcame two rain delays to shoot a 4-under 68 in Verona, N.Y., and take a one-shot lead after three rounds.
Hjertstedt, who became the first Swede to win on the PGA Tour when he captured the 1997 B.C. Open, was at 14-under 202. Joey Sindelar (1985, 1987) and Brad Faxon (1999, 2000) are the other two-time winners of the event, which will be cut from the PGA Tour after this year.
First-round leader Mark Brooks (66) was tied for second with David Branshaw (68) and Scott Gump (69).
Juniors: Jenny Shin, 13, rallied from a late three-hole deficit to beat Vicky Hurst in 37 holes and become the second-youngest winner in the 58-year history of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur in Charlotte, N.C.
Philip Francis beat fellow Arizonan Richard Lee 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final of U.S. Junior Amateur in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
