NEW YORK-

There's no mistaking where this photo is set–it's Coney Island, Brooklyn, with the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone roller coaster forming a backdrop to the crowds that filled the beach and the water on a hot August day in 1948.

While the boardwalk businesses look different today, millions of people still flock to Coney Island each year to visit the amusement parks, frolic in the Atlantic and soak up the sun. (You probably won't find quite as many people wearing bathing caps today, however, as you see in the photo.)

The 150-foot-tall Wonder Wheel, built in 1920, still provides a breathtaking aerial view, and the Cyclone, a world-famous wooden coaster that opened in 1927, is as relentless as ever. Today's visitors can also grab a hot dog at Nathan's Famous, visit the walruses at the New York Aquarium, and take in a minor-league baseball game at Keyspan Park, home to a team fittingly known as the Cyclones.
