OAKLAND, Calif.-
Lonely Planet has just come out with a series of "Best of" guides to Eastern European cities.
The destinations covered in the series include:
-Tallinn, Estonia, where you'll find 13th-century churches and traditional saunas;
-Ljubljana, Slovenia, home to the Triple Bridge, cobblestone streets and the artist commune Metelkova;
-Krakow, Poland, which offers underground clubs and chic new bars along with a historic Old Town and great pierogis (savory potato dumplings);
-Dubrovnik, Croatia, known for its Renaissance architecture, marble streets and terra-cotta rooftops, not to mention the nearby beaches of the Adriatic;
-Belgrade, Serbia, which Lonely Planet dubs "Europe's newest party town" — with floating nightclubs, plum brandy and the ancient Kalemegdan Citadel.
The slim paperbacks are $12.99 and come with maps, a highlights section, and recommendations for dining, sightseeing, entertainment, accommodations, shopping and tours.
