It’s in fashion.
Two hot runway shows are headed your way – one for the dogs, one for the movies.
First up is tonight’s Riverfront Park Wine & Fashion Series, featuring edgy threads from MAX and some free- wheeling tango dancers. The model march is free to all gawkers. If you want to get inside the ropes and taste the Wines of Argentina, it’ll cost you $25-$50. Either way, if the weather holds this is a deal.
MAX puts on his own eye- popper every December, but this is the first time he’s heading outdoors. Proceeds go to Railyard Dogs, a group of downtowners raising money to build a dog park. Organizers include Kevin Joseph, Rollie Jordan, Ami Cusack, Scott Anderson and Tay Hunt. The action starts at 5:30 p.m., the show begins at magic hour, otherwise known as dusk. Check it all out at river frontfashion.com.
“I’m more excited about this night than any we’ve done before,” says Joseph, who has presented the shows six times. “Getting MAX was a real coup and a great treat for Denver.”
MAX’s Max Martinez is also hyped. He told me he’s bringing clothes from five designers, “and lots of pretty girls! You gotta keep the party going!”
SCOOP ALERT! Then comes the fashion show Scene Stealers – the first style parade to benefit the Denver Film Society. It comes down Sept. 28 at Mile High Station, presented by Larimer Square and 5280 magazine. Every merchant on Larimer is on board for this one, even Cute as a Button and Dog Savvy. Veuve and Moet Champagne will be flowing, baby.
“It’s a perfect time for people to check out what to wear for opening night of the festival (Nov. 9),” says Denver Film Society’s Britta Erickson. “And we’ll announce some things we know about the festival that night too.” Could be the next big thing. Tix at larimersquare.com.
On a mission
Mission 19 hits Soiled Dove Underground at Lowry (beneath the new Tavern Lowry) Friday night. The band is led by Joe Nolan (son of local luminaries Mike Nolan and Nancy Sagar) and Ryan McConeghy. The Dove outing marks their first gig in Denver with a full band in more than a year. The boys always sold out at the original Dove; they should rip it up Friday at their homecoming.
Sign of the Times
The NY Times doesn’t always get it right when writing about Denver, but its full-page “Going to Denver” feature last Sunday was on the money. For eats advice, the Times’ Ted Loos sends you to Duo, Steuben’s and Z Cuisine.
