Just the good stuff, please: Patron-level supporters of the 2006 Children’s Hospital Gala will be thanked at a cocktail reception held Thursday night at the Belcaro home shared by pediatrician Jody Mathie and her husband, John Hoffman. In addition to food and drink, guests will be given a chance to bid on a New York Fashion Week package donated by Andrisen Morton Women’s. It’s worth $25,000 and includes round-trip air for four couples on NetJets, admission to five of the top shows (Oscar de la Renta, Monique Lhuillier, Michael Kors, Pamella Roland and Douglas Hannant), cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Four Seasons Hotel with the son of handbag designer Nancy Gonzalez, and all sorts of other good things. This is the first time an auction item has been offered prior to the gala itself, but have no fear: There’ll be plenty of other unique offerings the night of Sept. 16. Among them: a 2007 Volvo C70 convertible and the chance to sing on stage with headliner Huey Lewis.

Three alumni from the Art Institute of Colorado – Matt Coffman, Elise Wiggins and Robert Caldwell – will be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame during Saturday’s Grape Escape fundraiser. Coffman is the founder of Anabliss, a Denver-based graphics design studio that can count Coors, the National Football League, Colorado Ballet and the National Council of State Legislatures as clients. Wiggins is executive chef at Panzano restaurant in the Hotel Monaco. Caldwell is technical director for Gensler Architecture, Design & Planning in Baltimore. The Grape Escape, featuring food and wine from graduate Karen McNeil’s A Taste of the Season catering, also will have a silent auction and music by

Veterans Affairs Secretary – and former Denverite – Jim Nicholson had two reasons for being in Le Mars, Iowa, over the Labor Day Weekend. He attended the 50th reunion of his high school graduating class, and he was inducted into the Plymouth County Historical Museum Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was followed by a reception in Nicholson’s honor at the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor. Interestingly, Nicholson isn’t the only inductee with local ties. Organ transplant pioneer Dr. Thomas Starzl, who spent many years at University Hospital, previously made it to the Hall of Fame.
