A single-engine aircraft registered in Long Island, N.Y., crashed Friday in Moffat County along the Wyoming border.

The wreckage of the SR20 plane was scattered over a 2-mile area, and the bodies of two men aboard were found three-fourths of a mile apart, said Sgt. Rick Holford, a sheriff’s spokesman.

The two were not identified pending notification of family.

Oil workers in the isolated area saw the plane go down about 2:30 p.m. and called for help.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Weather in the area was stormy Friday, with lightning and thunder, Holford said.

The plane, registered to East End Aviation in Westhampton Beach, N.Y., went down northwest of Craig near county roads 10 and 167, Holford said.

The plane had touched down earlier in Provo, Utah, and was heading to Grand Island, Neb.
