Cutler must wait
After watching the second straight abysmal Broncos season opener, I remarked to my friends that the craziest fans and the local media will not waste much time calling for Jay Cutler to replace Jake. Didn’t have to wait long, did we?
The media want to stir the pot, and they waste no opportunity to do so. The print media and the TV sportscasters were bringing it up Sunday evening. Mark Kiszla didn’t waste much time, either. “Plummer’s pratfall only fuels the call for Cutler” showed up in Monday’s edition.
With no disrespect to Cutler, who I think will develop into a fine NFL quarterback, he is no John Elway. To judge him based on preseason games is not a real measure.
Patience, people. Cutler will get his chance – later, barring injury to the experienced starter.

Just win, baby
Jake Plummer saying “I’m playing as hard as I can,” reminds me of James Mason’s admonition to a young lawyer in “The Verdict”: “We are not being paid to do our best, we are being paid to win.”

A call for Cutler
Let the quarterback controversy begin. Start Jay Cutler. We’ve seen the best and worst of Jake, and he never will be more than what we have seen against the Steelers and Rams. It’s time to move on and develop a potential champion.

Short stay for Hawkins
Dan Hawkins needs to be pulled before we go too far down this mistaken path. Let’s get Dave Logan in as the CU Buffs head football coach once and for all. He knows how to win and will recruit the best instate talent to get the program back to the Bill McCartney standards.
Jerry Witt, Wheat Ridge
Give Hawkins time
It’s as sure as the sun rises: Dan Hawkins is going to be blasted as his Buffs begin the season winless in two tries. I’m not a basher, because Hawkins inherited this Buffs team. Until Hawkins gets the opportunity to recruit his team, the guy should get a long, long leash.
