A woman was gunned down Wednesday night in Edgewater by a man wielding a shotgun, police said.
At about 8:55 p.m., a woman started banging on the door of a house in the 2000 block of Otis Street.
When the resident came to the door, a man came up behind the woman knocking on the door and shot her in the head, police said.
The man fled in a red Ford pickup.
The unidentified woman died at the scene.
Police are trying to determine whether the woman was from the area.
Police also did not know if she knew the resident in the Otis Street house or just came to the door seeking help.
Authorities did not release a description of the suspect in the case or a motive.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
