Two similar sexual assaults in Aurora were not committed by the same person, but the two suspects may be working together, police said Thursday.

Two women – one 18 years old and one 75 – were sexually assaulted in Aurora within 10 days of each other. Forensic evidence released Thursday concluded the rapes weren’t committed by the same person.

“It’s a possibility that we’re looking at two suspects who were at the same crimes,” said Sgt. Rudy Herrera, Aurora police spokesman.

Suspicion that the two suspects are working together hinges on “strikingly similar” patterns in both crimes.

Both women describe being taken to an ATM, forced to withdraw money and then being sexually assaulted, police said.

The first incident happened Oct. 2 when a man with a handgun forced an 18-year-old woman into her car.

Police said the assailant forced the woman to withdraw money from an ATM, drove her to a parking lot and sexually assaulted her. He then got into the passenger side of a white or silver sport utility vehicle, which fled the area.

The second incident happened Oct. 11, when a man forced a 75-year-old woman into her house in Aurora at knifepoint, police said. The man drove her to a nearby bank, where he attempted to withdraw money. He drove back to the elderly victim’s house, sexually assaulted her and left.
