
An inch or two of snow could fall in the metro area this weekend as the storm currently battering the northern and central mountains moves east. Some areas of the mountains could get up to a foot of snow.
Interstate 70 between the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail is snowpacked and icy, making travel treacherous, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. A chain requirement is in effect for all buses and commercial vehicles.
The Colorado State Patrol has responded to multiple accidents along the Interstate 70 corridor.
“Our troopers have stayed pretty busy,” said Trooper Eric Wynn. None of the accidents were serious, he added.
The National Weather Service predicts a good chance of snow tonight and all day Saturday for the Denver area. The high temperature Saturday will only be in the upper 30s. By Sunday the sun will shine again and highs will be in the upper 40s.
The latest storm moved into the state from the northwest and is moving east, said Carl Burroughs, weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Boulder.
“Winter time has arrived,” he said.
