The University of Denver women’s soccer team scored all of its goals in the first half to cruise to a 3-0 win over Arkansas-Little Rock in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference championship Wednesday in Lafayette, La.
Denver’s Taryn Hemmings, the Sun Belt player of the year, scored the game-winner in the 16th minute and assisted on the following two goals.
The top-seeded Pioneers (16-2-1) will face the winner of the Florida Atlantic-Western Kentucky match in the semifinal round today at 3 p.m. Arkansas-Little Rock, the eighth seed, dropped to 6-14.
UNLV women’s soccer eliminates Wyoming
The University of Nevada-Las Vegas women’s soccer team got a goal in the 90th minute and ended Wyoming’s season with a 1-0 victory in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference tournament in Salt Lake City.
UNLV’s Katie Carney scored the game-winner from 18 yards out with two seconds remaining after Wyoming (7-9-3) failed to clear the ball after a free kick. Carney last season scored the game-winner in the MWC championship game. The Rebels (9-10-1) will play Brigham Young today at 4:30 p.m. in a semifinal game.
Prout to return to NLL’s Mammoth
As expected, leading scorer Gavin Prout signed a one-year deal with the defending National Lacrosse League champion Colorado Mammoth. Prout and the Mammoth return to the Pepsi Center for the Maroon and White scrimmage Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. Admission is free and players will sign autographs afterward.
