Authorities have identified two women killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening near Roxborough Park, southwest of Denver.

Heather Ryan, 34, was driving north on Rampart Range Road when her Land Rover Discovery crossed the grassy raised median and became airborne, police said.

Ryan’s vehicle landed on top of a southbound Jeep driven by Sarah Nelson, 33.

The drivers, who were both from Roxborough, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A child, believed to be about 3 years old, was strapped in a car seat in the Land Rover.

The child remains in stable condition at a local hospital, said Lt. Kim Castellano of the Doug las County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident closed Rampart Range Road from shortly after 6 p.m. to midnight.

Castellano said excessive speed appears to be a factor, although the final determination of the cause will depend on an accident reconstruction.

The speed limit along Rampart Range is 45 mph.
