You miss a week, you miss a lot.
I’m back from a week in Mexico. My tummy hurts, my head aches – and I’m almost sad I was on the beach instead of plowing my way to various Denver parties and dishing the dirt to you of this and that.
Even in Mexico I heard that late Denver oilman Marvin Davis’ grandson, Brandon Davis (the NY Post calls him Brandon “Greasy Bear” Davis) is dating Britney “Where Are My Pants?” Spears. And that Lindsay Lohan threw a hissy at Boulder beauty Jessica Biel at a Hollywood party.
Closer to home, I missed the Max Fashion Show Saturday night. I hear the glam crowd showed up at Tracks for Max Martinez’s 21st outing ready to party. Earlier that night, Erico Motorsports drew a different crowd for a revved-up cycle style show dubbed Moto Fashion. Check them both out at the slideshow at denverpost.com/sundaystyle.
I missed the 2006 Santa Claus Pub Crawl Saturday night. More than 180 men and women got gussied up as Santa, Santa’s helpers, elves, reindeer – and marched from Fado to Wynkoop Brewing Co. to Tavern Downtown to Code 3 Lounge to Jackson’s. When this crowd shows up, it’s Santa showtime. “It was crazy as ever,” says Will Hamilton, who’s been organizing this insane gathering for five years with Albin Ulle. “Santas just keep coming in the door and people are like. ‘What the …?”‘
I missed the party hosted by Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails. I missed the Little Black Dress Affair. I missed Castle Rock’s Karen Harris cooking sweet potato cakes on “Martha Stewart.” I missed the gala debut of 11 remodeled toilets at Mercury Cafe. I missed Zagat naming JW Marriott as the Top Hotel in Denver.
I missed Greg Goldfogel’s announcement that he’s shutting down his popular Amore restaurant this summer. He’s taking over Sambuca downtown after the new year and rebranding it as brio, an upscale restaurant with Northern Italian and jazz.
And I missed you, gentle reader.
Damon and Bob
Bob Costas is down to receive the Damon Runyon Award at the 13th annual banquet June 22 at the downtown Westin. Organizer John Ensslin says he’s especially excited because Costas, now appearing on NBC Sunday Night Football, is the first honoree who made his bones in sports – like Runyon. This is the first time the event has come down in the summer – to fit into Costa’s sked.
And Damon Runyon III, the great one’s grandson, plans to be at the dinner too. Call 303-571-5260.
City spirit
The 20th annual Matzo Ball, hosted by the Society of Young Jewish Pros, comes down Christmas Eve at Polly Esther’s. Deets at mat zoball.org … Paradise Bakery & Cafe in Cherry Creek opens today … Sez who: “I had a lazy eye as a kid, and it gradually spread to my whole body.” Tom Cotter
