NEW YORK-
The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah begins the night of Dec. 15, and if you’re looking for a place to celebrate, check out , where you’ll find listings for 2,000 menorah lightings around the globe, from Las Vegas to Almaty, Kazakhstan. (That’s right, Kazakhstan — Borat was wrong!)
Though the celebrations are sponsored by the ultra-Orthodox Lubavitcher Jews, they are open to Jews of every level of observance as well as non-Jews. The Hanukkah events are free and often include parties with traditional potato pancakes called latkes, as well as small gifts for children. They range from gatherings on college campuses to lightings of large public menorahs in locations like the Ellipse in Washington D.C., near the White House. (For details on the Washington event, visit ; the event is free but tickets are required.)
Check individual venues for event times, which may vary depending on sundown and Sabbath observances on Friday and Saturday.
