The Air Force hockey team broke through in the third period with goals from Josh Frider and Brian Reese to earn a 4-2 victory over Connecticut in an Atlantic Hockey Association game Thursday at the Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn.

Peter Foster made seven saves in the final period to preserve the win for Air Force (9-7-3, 6-2-3 AHA) and the Falcons extended their unbeaten streak to four games.

Air Force (15 points) jumped ahead of Rochester Tech (13) into fourth place in the AHA standings. Connecticut (4-11-0, 4-7, eight points) remained in eighth place.

NLL’s Mammoth puts Jalbert on inactive list

The Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League placed defenseman Jay Jalbert on the inactive list after a concussion sidelined him last season. He will be out indefinitely.

Jalbert, who led NLL defensemen with a career-high 19 goals last season, was voted a second-team all-pro selection. Jalbert joined the Mammoth in 2004 as a free agent. He’s appeared in three consecutive NLL All-Star games.

“Choosing to sit out is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make,” Jalbert said, “but I think some time off is necessary to prolong my career.”

The Mammoth’s 23-man roster will be announced Thursday for the 2007 season.
