Two men were stabbed to death at a party in southwest Denver early New Year’s Eve, police said.
A third man suffered stab wounds at the party, and his condition was unknown late Sunday, said Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday at a brick ranch home on the southwest corner of Yates Street and West Second Avenue.
Police did not release the victims’ names late Sunday because the men, ages 25 and 30, had not been positively identified.
No arrests were made.
Detectives say a party was going on at the house, and during the festivities several people began fighting.
“There were other people injured in this fight,” Jackson said. “It was a very big fight between several individuals. The motivation for this fight? We still don’t know.”
Police were questioning several people.
“We are talking to partygoers, and that is where we are right now,” Jackson said.
Up to Nov. 22, Denver police had investigated 54 homicides. The total number for the year was unavailable Sunday.
In 2005 the city had 63 killings. Homicides in Denver have dropped since 2004, when there were 91.
Most neighbors on Yates Street said they slept through the fight. They did not know there were fatal stabbings until they awoke to police investigators combing the middle of their street.
A neighbor who lives on Yates declined to be identified because she feared for her safety. But she said that several young men rent the house and are usually quiet. It wasn’t until a recent party at the house that she noticed beer bottles were littered all over the street the next day.
“It’s terrible,” the woman said. “It’s too much drinking or whatever.”
