FITTING IN
Calling all kids 12 and under who need a plan for eating better and getting in shape – “Fitting In” is a new reality TV show to be filmed in Colorado this spring featuring kids who want to make healthy changes. “There will be no scales and no eliminations,” says former KCNC-Channel 4 anchorwoman Stephanie Riggs, who is producing the show to air on the Healthy Living Channel and Beauty & Fashion Channel (carried on Dish Network and Time Warner Cable). Instead, she has assembled a group of life coaches and other experts to work with children and their families. Riggs is holding an open casting call from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 21 and 22 at United Martial Arts & Fitness Center, 1610 E. Girard Place, Unit A, in Englewood (303-783-9632).
GUIDELINES FOR GUYS
Men who have resolved to
shape up in 2007 but don’t know where to start should check out “The Men’s Health Gym Bible,” by Michael Mejia and Myatt Murphy (Rodale, $19.95). Chockablock with photos demonstrating hundreds of weightlifting and cardiovascular exercises and sample workout plans, the guide covers how to find a gym, negotiate a membership and choose a trainer.
DIAL A WORKOUT
Pulling out a cellphone at the gym is usually a no-no, but when it’s used as a training tool rather than for yakking with your boyfriend, it’s another story. PumpOne, a company that has developed visual-training programs for the iPod and other hand-held devices, is now offering programs for cellphones. You simply go to
PumpOne.mobi on a Web-browser-enabled cell, text PUMP to 94444 or enter a mobile number at PumpOne.com and get PumpOne.mobi “pushed” to your phone. You can get a free trial workout at PumpOne.com; then prices range from $2.99 for a single workout accessible for 24 hours to $14.99 for a month’s worth of plans. Workouts using gym equipment or those suited for travelers are available.
