Anyone who has visited the Fox Theatre knows its dark wooden walls can quickly turn into a sweatbox swarming with humanity.
Granted, any buzzed-about show is likely to teem with souls at some point, but the Boulder venue’s penchant for booking bigger acts is a testament to its operators’ skills. Their under-500-person capacity doesn’t limit the acts they reach for, from TV on the Radio to Band of Horses to moe. All were destined to sell out before tickets went on sale.
For its 15th anniversary, the Fox has slotted another pair of acts that could easily headline a venue seating thousands. Tour-happy blues-rockers Robert Randolph and the Family Band and jam favorites Umphrey’s McGee will each play two nights at the modest room.
Tickets for the March 3-6 shows are on sale, but grab them quickly because they’re sure to sell out. ($30, foxtheatre.com)

The Tragically Hip have endured ups and downs over its 24-year career, but 2007 is inarguably an up period for the Canadian pop-rock group. The new album, “World Container,” is garnering positive reviews while the band’s live show finds it opening several U.S. dates for The Who. The band stops by the Gothic Theatre on March 19. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($30, Ticketmaster)
The String Cheese Incident will carve a late-winter loop through Colorado in March, including three dates at the Fillmore Auditorium (March 22-24) and two at John A. Dobson Ice Arena in Vail. Tickets for the jamgrass band’s shows went on sale Thursday. ($37.75-$40, Ticketmaster)
Brian Regan must have a big red “X” over the state of Colorado on his glove-box map. Every time the squeaky-clean stand-up comedian visits he sells out, as evidenced by his dates last year in June and December. He’ll play the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs on March 31. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($35.50, TicketsWest)
