Tsingtao, $6.79 a six-pack

Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day, Tsingtao on Chinese New Year, coming up Feb. 18. It’s only right.

The Tsingtao Brewery, now 27 percent owned by Anheuser- Busch, was established in 1903 by German brewers, who spread their influence all over the world. It was first imported to the United States in 1972 and remains the top-selling Chinese beer in the U.S.

Marketed in a green bottle, Tsingtao is nominally a pilsener, light and medium in alcohol (4.8 by volume) but with a bit more hoppiness than might be expected.

What it lacks in complex flavors, Tsingtao makes up for in its compatibility with spicy Chinese dishes.
