Are, Sweden – It has been a tough situation up here at the world alpine championships.
Super-G races scheduled Saturday (men) and Sunday (women) were postponed because of heavy snow and blowing winds. The men’s makeup race Monday was postponed as well. Now they’re hoping to hold both races today.
There’s plenty of snow on the hill, and the hill looks pretty good. It has just been too windy with a lot of new snow falling. The forecast for today says the weather is supposed to clear.
We’re not wasting any time worrying about it or thinking too much about it. You just have to blow it off and hope the weather changes the next day. We got some decent slalom training in on Monday, so it was good to get something accomplished, but otherwise it has just been a matter of hanging out, watching it snow and blow.
We had the option of watching the Super Bowl on Sunday night at USA House, but the game started after midnight here and I didn’t want to stay up until 4 a.m. with a race scheduled (only to be postponed) the next day. We had it on Slingbox, and somebody TiVo’d it, so we can watch it, even though I already know the result.
Otherwise, we’ve just been sitting and watching it snow. It has been a pretty lax few days.
