Frankly, I like ’em
New York Times columnist Bob Morris made it pretty clear that East Coasters have a dim view of save-the-date cards by excoriating the “uninviting invitations” in a piece that appeared last Sunday.
He describes how a cousin dismisses a save-the-date notice for a party in June as an “invitation by intimidation.” The cousin, Morris explains, likes to spend summer weekends on his sailboat on Lake Champlain and is discomfited to know so soon that he’s going to have to make a choice between the boat and his friends on one of those weekends. Poor baby.
Similarly, a New York author and socialite reacts to a card she received for a June wedding in London. “I already feel traumatized because I don’t like to leave my garden on Long Island in June,” she tells Morris. “When someone invites you that early, you can’t just say you’ve already made plans to be in Capri at a friend’s villa.”
Is that how they’re received in Denver? I asked five people and the response was unanimous: We like ’em, we really, really like ’em.

Stirring the passions When the doors to the Adam’s Mark Hotel Plaza Ballroom opened, guests at the 10th anniversary Denver Heart Ball, Noche de Corazones, could feel the passions stir. The En Fuego Latin Jazz Quartet was playing tango music as a pair of professional dancers moved to the sensuous beat. Tables were set with arrangements of red roses and black plumes to compliment the scarlet lighting that gave the party area the sexy vibe of an Argentine dance hall.
