DENVER-

Colorado College buoyed its precarious NCAA tournament hopes with a 3-0 win Friday over Denver.

Colorado College swept the Pioneers earlier this season to captured the state rivalry’s Gold Pan traveling trophy for the first time since 2003.

Tigers’ goaltender Matt Zaba made 29 saves and Colorado College received goals from Billy Sweatt, Chad Rau, and Jack Hillen.

With the win, the Tigers (17-15-3, 13-12-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) secure home ice for the first round of the league playoffs next week. Denver (21-13-3, 13-11-3) has won only one of its past six games and has suffered consecutive shutout losses at home for the first time in the rich history of its program.

The Tigers broke its six-game winless streak and four-game losing streak by scoring a goal in each period.

Denver outshot the Tigers 29-17 but went 0-for-7 on the power play and has gone 3-for-38 with a man advantage during the past six games. Jimmy Kilpatrick posted two assists for Colorado College.
