LITTLETON, Colo.-

Two children were found living in a home where a suspected methamphetamine lab was discovered by officers serving a warrant, police said Wednesday.

The children, ages 2 and 6, were turned over to the custody of a relative after medical examinations, police said in a written statement. Their names were not released.

Methamphetamine production involves toxic chemicals that are a health hazard as well as posing a risk of fire and explosions.

The children’s mother, Demitria Soriano, 31, was arrested on charges of possession and manufacture of methamphetamine.

Police had gone to the house Tuesday night to assist a bail bond agent with a warrant arrest of Adam Mills, 28. Mills was taken into custody on three outstanding misdemeanor charges, but Sgt. Trent Cooper said he did not know what those charges were.

Mills and Soriano were taken to the Arapahoe County jail after undergoing decontamination.

Police also found what they believe was methamphetamine in the home.

Three other adults who were in the house when police arrived were not arrested, Cooper said. It was not immediately clear if Mills was living there.
