FORT COLLINS, Colo.-

A Colorado group is in talks to land a WNBA team for the 2008 season.

“We have a continued and passionate interest in the ownership and development of women’s professional basketball in Colorado,” said David King, CEO of Triple Crown Sports.

Triple Crown Sports is a sports marketing company based in Fort Collins that owns the Colorado Chill, which played three seasons (2004-06) in the NWBL.

King is in talks with the WNBA and also with several venues, including the Pepsi Center, where the Denver Nuggets play, the Budweiser Events Center, where the Chill played during its three seasons, and other arenas in the Denver area. It’s likely the team would play games at more than one arena.

“Pepsi Center would be able to host a number of games during the summer of 2008 and beyond. Everyone at Kroenke Sports is excited about the possibility of hosting the Colorado Chill and the WNBA for these dates in Denver,” said Paul Andrews, executive vice president of Kroenke Sports Enterprises.
