HAYDEN, Colo.-

A smoky fire that burned for about four hours at an oil well in northern Colorado on Thursday was expected to keep the well out of production for about a month, according to the well owner.

No injuries were reported from the fire at Infinity Energy Resources’ well about eight miles north of Hayden, said James Tuell, Infinity’s president and chief operating officer.

He said the fire was confined to production equipment inside berms enclosing the well, which produced about 200 barrels per day, accounting for about 20 percent of the company’s 2006 production.

Routt County emergency management director Chuck Vale said nobody was at the site when the fire started. He said it appeared one or both 500-gallon propane tanks at the site exploded, igniting the fire.
