A mistrial was declared Monday in the sexual-assault case of Luther Hill after more than two days of unsuccessful deliberation by a jury.

Denver District Judge Morris Hoffman declared the mistrial about 3:30 p.m. Monday after the jury indicated it was still deadlocked.

The jury first told Hoffman it couldn’t reach agreement on Friday afternoon.

Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver district attorney’s office, said the jury voted 11 for conviction, one against.

There will be a status conference April 9 when prosecutors will ask that a new trial date be set, Kimbrough said.

Last week, a 21-year-old woman looked directly at Hill and told the jury that he was the man who sexually assaulted her in a bathroom stall of the Kaiser Franklin Building at 2045 Franklin St. She told the jury she didn’t have a “single doubt” about her identification.

However, Hill’s lawyer, Kate Dulitzky, disputed the woman’s story. She claimed that Hill was at his mother’s house with his wife at the time of the August attack.
