LINCOLN, Neb.-
A man whose body was found Wednesday by a fisherman in a Lincoln-area lake was identified Friday as a Sudanese refugee who lived in Lincoln.
Authorities still don’t know how 41-year-old Arop Arou Mabang Daljang died, or how long his body had been in the water. Because the water has been cold, it’s difficult even to guess from the condition of the body how long ago Daljang died, said Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner.
A man searching for snagged fishing lures found the body in the water Wednesday evening near Area 13 of Branched Oak Lake.
Daljang came to the United States from Sudan in 2000 as a refugee, settling in Lincoln in 2003, according to the sheriff’s office. He had a cousin in Lincoln, but hadn’t been reported missing, Wagner said.
Daljang was identified using fingerprints on file from a 2003 arrest for a domestic violence incident involving his ex-wife, who lives in Denver, Wagner said.
An autopsy will be performed Saturday, Wagner said. Police are searching Daljang’s residence south of downtown Lincoln.
