It’s been a tough week for the family dog, what with the massive commercial dog food recall and all. We figured the time was right to offer a wholesome treat for Fido. You’re making them, so you know for sure nothing deadly is included. – Dana Coffield
Dog Biscuits
This recipe was developed by Emily Karlzen of Louisville, who entered it in The Denver Post’s Kids’ Week cooking contest. With her mom’s help, she bakes the treats every other month and donates them to the Longmont Humane Society.
Ingredients
2 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 egg
6 tablespoons vegetable oil
8 10 tablespoons water
2 small jars strained baby food (beef, chicken, lamb or liver)
Directions
Mix all ingredients together and knead for 3 minutes. Roll out to 1/2-inch thick. Using a dog-bone-shaped cookie cutter, cut biscuits and place the on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Makes approximately two dozen doggie biscuits.
