“Combover: The Movie” will have a most unusual premiere. The indie doc, made by Denverites Chris Marino and Tim Fenoglio, will debut at Cigars on 6th at 7 tonight. If you can’t take the smoke, you can catch the movie at 9 p.m. Monday on The Sundance Channel.

“Combover” is about men who comb over their bald heads. It’s a scary phenomenon – and the boys did much of the shooting here in Denver. But when Marino would ask to interview a guy, the usual response was, “What comb-over?”

Marino appeared on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and “Countdown With Keith Olbermann.” The one-hour movie was sold to markets all over the world. They actually made money on it.

“We’re very fortunate,” says Marino. “This is my first independent doc, and to come out the other side with my pants still on is pretty good.”

Stories

Curious Theatre is gearing up for its May 9 “Denver Stories,” a benefit performance of short plays based on the lives of local bold names: Patty Calhoun, Bob Garner, Troy Guard, Andrew Hudson and Judi Wolf.

Local actors lined up to play the big shots include Jason Henning as Garner, Josh Robinson as Hudson and Martha Harmon Pardee as Calhoun. Wolf will, of course, play herself in a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.

Members of the Denver Botanic Gardens get news of the summer concert lineup Wednesday. Among the acts coming this summer (they’re calling it the biggest, best ever): Linda Ronstadt and Nina Storey on June 5; Steve Winwood on June 24 and Gordon Lightfoot on Aug. 16.
