Despite strong headwinds, sideways rain and chilly temperatures in a Nor’easter that produced one of the slowest Boston Marathons in decades, Littleton’s Suzanne McMillan enjoyed every minute of Monday’s race.
McMillan lost 100 pounds through an exercise regimen and ran the Denver Marathon last October. Race director Dave McGillivray, who also is the Boston Marathon race director, was so inspired by her story he invited her to run the world’s most famous footrace.
“It wasn’t that bad,” said McMillan, 36. “It was like the funnest thing I’ve ever done. It was one of the best days of my life, aside from the day I got married and the days my kids were born.”
McMillan finished in 4 hours, 54 minutes, 42 seconds, nearly 47 minutes faster than her time in Denver. Her husband and four children were there to watch.
“I want to do it again,” McMillan said. “I kept saying, ‘This is my last marathon,’ but I’m hooked.”
