TRINIDAD, Colo.-

State officials are warning anglers that some fish caught in waters near Trinidad contain high levels of mercury.

The fish were caught in Trinidad Lake and Horseshoe Reservoir. Mercury levels exceed the state standard of zero-point-five parts per million.

The state is warning that children under age six and pregnant and nursing women should be especially careful about eating fish caught in the area.

The fish tissue tests are part of a five-year plan that samples fish in roughly 120 bodies of water statewide. Other fish consumption advisories can be accessed online.
