FORT COLLINS, Colo.-
A former teacher accused of having sexual relations with a juvenile student during a school trip to Estes Park pleaded guilty Tuesday in a deal with prosecutors.
Carrie McCandless, 30, entered her plea in Larimer County District Court to charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful sexual contact.
McCandless was 29 when she had inappropriate sexual contact with Tommy Clay, then 17, last October. Clay told his version of the events last month on NBC’s “Today” show.
McCandless had been a teacher at Brighton Charter School, but was fired after the allegations surfaced. Her husband, Chris, is principal of the school, on the northeast edge of the Denver area.
Carrie McCandless was expected to be sentenced to 45 days in jail, plus supervised probation and treatment in an intensive sex offender program.
Formal sentencing was scheduled for June.
