San Antonio – Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony said this morning that his team still has a lot to prove.
“I think if we win tonight, it’s really going to open up people’s eyes,” Anthony said.
Before their morning shootaround, the Nuggets talked about what it’s going to take to beat San Antonio in Game 2 tonight at the AT&T Center.
“I think we’re trying to be stoic about the game,” Nuggets coach George Karl said. “It has the same value as Game 1. Our emphasis tonight is the first-quarter energy and intensity. It’s our job to show that we’re ready to compete. I told them don’t think about how you’re going to win the series, just think about how you’re going to win games. The game at hand is the one you worry about.”
San Antonio players and coaches said they were pleased with their defensive strategy against Denver’s Anthony and Allen Iverson in the first game and would attempt to continue making shooting tough for the duo.
Iverson said he has room to improve.
“I felt like I could have played a whole lot better,” he said. “That makes me feel that much better going into (tonight’s) game.”
Anthony said he hasn’t ventured out much around the town, but he added a San Antonio fan told him to “take it easy on our Spurs.”
Noteworthy: Karl said Nene, who has a knee injury, participated in the Nuggets entire practice today and “didn’t take one possession off. Eddie (Najera) was trying to get in, and he kept saying, ‘No, I want to play.'”
