Odell Brewing IPA, $6.99 a six-pack
Hoppy but not too hoppy. There is a trend among microbrewers to make “bigger and bigger” beers – loaded with hops until it’s like munching on grass.
Not so with Odell Brewing’s IPA introduced in late February. An off-white head and deep gold color lead to a brilliant aroma of hops, promising multiple flavors from the first sip. It sits on the palate comfortably.
While the hops are noticeable they are not out of control, although at 7 percent alcohol (by volume) this is far from a wimpy offering from a brewery with a solid track record of interesting and innovative styles taken to a new level. The IPA joins Odell’s other year-round beers. | Odell Brewing Co., 800 E. Lincoln Ave., Fort Collins; 970-498-9070 | Dick Kreck
