PUEBLO, Colo.-

Sheriff’s investigators Monday were trying to identity a man whose body was found in the trunk of a burning car and find more information about the vehicle’s owner who has been missing for nearly a week.

The car was registered to Gary Lambert, 45, of Pueblo. His girlfriend reported last hearing from him on April 24 and he was reported missing Friday.

Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer said Sunday that dental records will be required to positively identify the body discovered in the trunk of the 2000 Ford Mustang.

The car was found burning about 11 miles north of Pueblo on Saturday. Investigators said they found footprints indicating someone may have walked away from the car.

Kramer said an autopsy determined that the victim was male. Kramer was awaiting the results of toxicology and carbon monoxide tests to determine the cause of death.

The fire gutted the car, authorities said.
