Getting your player ready...

The Buffalo Creek Recreation Area of Pike National Forest has endured nearly a decade of fierce beatings. Fire and floods have conspired to erase its glory, but Buffalo Creek today stands tall as one of the finest playgrounds around, anchored by the rugged Colorado Trail. An inaugural bike race Sunday will celebrate some of the coolest singletrack near the Front Range. Organized by the Team Evergreen Bicycle Club, in cooperation with Pike National Forest South Platte Ranger District, The Burn mountain bike race will offer two routes (a 22-mile course and 13-mile course) through Buffalo Creek’s sometimes lunar and charred landscape. The race is designed as a time trial, with racers starting every 30 seconds from the Castle Mountain Recreation Area’s Wellington Lake, about 11 miles southeast of Bailey.

Do it — Early registration until Friday is $27 and day-of-the-race registration is $32. Get the lowdown at www.teamevergreenracing.com.
