DENVER-
Colorado third-graders’ reading test scores rose in preliminary test results released Thursday by the state Education Department.
Statewide figures showed 71.1 percent of this year’s third-graders scored at the proficient or advanced levels on the Colorado Student Assessment Program tests.
Last year, 70 percent scored at that level, and in 2005 it was 71 percent.
State education officials said they would not comment on the results because they were preliminary and unofficial. Final results will be released in August.
This year’s preliminary results showed 6.9 percent of students scored at the advanced level, 64.2 percent at proficient, 18.6 percent at partially proficient and 9.8 percent at unsatisfactory.
One-half percent of the students who took the test were not scored.
