DENVER-
A Denver man accused of killing his wife and throwing her body in the trash pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Monday.
Frank Schilt, who had been charged with first-degree murder, faces 32 to 48 years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 6 in the death of Teresa Schilt, district attorney’s spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder, she said.
Frank Schilt disappeared a few weeks after Teresa Schilt was last seen. He was captured in Arkansas, where authorities said he was trying to hang himself.
Authorities said Schilt told detectives he and his wife were arguing about money on Feb. 25, 2006, when he pushed her and she struck her head on the headboard of a bed.
According to an arrest affidavit, he told detectives that he wrapped her body in a comforter and kept it in the trunk of his car for several days before putting wrapping it in plastic bags and putting it in a trash bin.
