The Colorado Division of Wildlife will conduct a clinic on how to catch warm-water fish at John Martin Reservoir on Saturday.

The free event, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., will teach the biology of the various fish of the region and tips on how to catch them. After an indoor informational segment at the John Martin State Park Visitor Center and a hot dog cookout, participants will have the opportunity to test their new-found knowledge at the lake.

A state parks pass and fishing license will be required of those who plan to fish. For information, call 719-336-6608.

Sharp-tail in Middle Park

The Colorado Division of Wildlife recently transplanted 44 female sharp-tail grouse to Middle Park, supplementing a plant of 39 male birds last fall. The agency hopes to re-establish a flourishing population of this grouse in the area with an eye toward a huntable population at some distant point. Hunting for sharp-tail grouse is allowed in portions of Routt and Moffat counties, but closed elsewhere in Colorado.

Utah strictly online

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources no longer will accept paper applications for its ant- lerless deer, elk, pronghorn or moose licenses. All applications now must be made online. Visit wildlife.utah.gov, before a deadline of May 23.
