Sky Sox official hurt in fireworks blast
A Colorado Springs Sky Sox baseball team official was in serious condition Sunday after an explosion that occurred while he was preparing fireworks for a game.
Rai Henniger, 47, was behind the scoreboard about 3 p.m. Saturday, preparing a small fireworks display that goes off for home runs or wins, team officials and firefighters said.
Employees heard an explosion and found Henniger conscious but with injuries to his face, the team said. It was not immediately known what caused the explosion.
Henniger was hospitalized in critical condition in Colorado Springs before he was moved to Denver Health Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition Sunday.

Car goes over cliff; two taken to hospitals
Two men were taken to area hospitals Sunday evening after a vehicle they were traveling in went over a cliff at Shaffer’s Crossing near Conifer.
The Colorado State Patrol was called to the accident on U.S. 285 just after 8 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle had gone over a cliff and rolled 150 feet down an embankment, said Trooper Eric Wynn.
The driver was transported to Swedish Medical Center with minor injuries. His passenger was sent to a hospital in Denver.
Authorities are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol, Wynn said.

Boy, 2, only scratched in fall from 2nd story
A 2-year-old Westminster boy had a scratch on his elbow after falling 12 feet from a second- floor apartment balcony Saturday night, officials say.
The boy was treated and released from a local hospital, said Diana Allen, spokeswoman for the Westminster Fire Department.
Westminster police determined that the fall from the apartments at West 92nd Avenue and Federal Boulevard was accidental, Allen said.
Allen warned that incidents of children falling from windows and balconies increase as it gets warmer and people open their windows and patio doors.

OU bomber’s brother faces threat charges
The brother of a University of Oklahoma student who blew himself up on campus has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly threatening FBI agents in Colorado Springs.
U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn on Friday set a four-day trial beginning June 25 for Thomas Hinrichs, brother of Joel Hinrichs III.
Joel Hinrichs died after a bomb he assembled and placed in a backpack detonated Oct. 1, 2005, near a crowded Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Thomas Hinrichs, 25, was charged late last year with threatening two FBI agents in October and November.
The FBI had investigated Thomas Hinrichs as part of a probe of what was involved in his brother’s death.
Thomas Hinrichs had a rifle, ammunition and a military helmet when arrested, police said.

Open houses to look at federal center plan
Open houses are planned this week for review of the recently completed Denver Federal Center draft master site plan and environmental impact statement.
The project details future development alternatives. Copies are available at Building 41 of the federal center, Belmar Library and the Lakewood city clerk’s office.
Wednesday’s meetings are planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building 41, and 4 to 8 p.m. at Creighton Middle School, 75 Independence St.
A Thursday meeting is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building 25.

Beginning today, Lakewood residents can watch the City Council sessions by live streaming video on the city’s website, lakewood.org.
The video works with PC and Macintosh computers.
The videos will be available for playback on demand for up to a year.
